Own the Bone, a multidisciplinary online quality improvement program developed by the American Orthopaedic Association, helps physicians and other healthcare specialists identify, screen and treat patients with osteoporosis and low bone mass after fragility fractures to prevent future fractures. The national online registry provides access to benchmarking capabilities enabling institutions to document improvements in patient care over time as well as compare results to other participating institutions.
Own the Bone incorporates 10 prevention measures (nutrition counseling, physical activity counseling, lifestyle counseling, pharmacotherapy, DXA testing and communication), which are tracked and monitored within the registry. These 10 measures are consistent with recommendations from the National Osteoporosis Foundation and Joint Commission.
